A voluntary recall first issued by Ocean Group, Inc., based in Los Angeles, California, on November 1, 2024 for multiple salmon products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria) remains ongoing. Listeria is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
Background
The potential for Listeria contamination was discovered after environmental sampling of a cutting board and floor drain by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested positive for the pathogen.
This recall is classified as a Class II recall, meaning that the recalled product has a lower chance of causing significant injuries or death, but there still is the possibility of serious adverse events.
Distribution
The affected products were distributed to multiple retail and restaurant locations in California.

Consumer and Commercial Action
As with all food recalls, consumers and businesses are strongly advised to discontinue use of the affected product even if it looks or smells safe to eat.
Anyone in possession of the recalled product is requested to not sell, serve, or distribute them.
The company has not said if the product can be returned to the store for a refund. Consumers should check with the store where the product was purchased. At a minimum, the product should be discarded.
Consumers should thoroughly sanitize any surface or utensils that have come into contact with the recalled products.
Health Risks
There was no mention if there have been any reported cases of illness or injuries in connection with the consumption of the recalled products.
Listeriosis, the infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes, is particularly dangerous for certain vulnerable populations. Pregnant individuals, people aged 65 or older, and those with weakened immune systems are at highest risk. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, sometimes preceded by gastrointestinal symptoms. In pregnant individuals, listeriosis can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infections in newborns.
Anyone experiencing symptoms of Listeriosis should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
Commenting on this article, the nation’s leading Listeria lawyer said, “Although this recall was initiated in early November, it’s possible that some consumers and businesses could still have the recalled product in their possession. I strongly recommend consumers and businesses to check their freezers for the recalled items and dispose of them immediately.”
