On the 30th of December, 2022, Avery’s Savory Popcorn LLC of Dallas, Texas, announced a voluntary recall of their Gourmet Popcorn. The recall was published by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) on January 3rd, 2022, reporting the cause of recall to be undeclared allergens, such as tree nuts, sulfites, soy, peanuts and milk. The recall was reportedly initiated after a short breakdown of Avery’s Savory Popcorn’s packaging and production process. Due to this, Avery’s Savory Popcorn Gourmet Popcorn was packaged and distributed in a misleading package.

All flavors of Avery’s Savory Popcorn Gourmet Popcorn are affected in this recall. Additionally, all flavors of the recalled popcorn have been distributed in Texas, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma and Ohio. Avery’s Savory Popcorn Gourmet Popcorn was distributed in various sizes of packaging

When Congress passed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) in 2004, it became law that food producers must label products that contain any of the 8 major food allergens. This was established because, as reported by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to specific type of allergen (e.g., milk, soy, peanuts, tree nuts {almonds, walnuts, pecans, cashews}, and sulfites) run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.” Individuals who are allergic to tree nuts, peanuts, milk, sulfites and/or soy, and have bought Avery’s Savory Popcorn LLC’s Gourmet Popcorn, should discard of the product and strictly avoid consumption. Customers without the aforementioned allergies may consume the product without concern. Additionally, individuals who are experiencing allergic reactions to consuming Avery’s Savory Popcorn Gourmet Popcorn should contact their personal healthcare provider as well as public health authorities in a timely manner.
