On the 22nd of July, 2022, Nature’s Sunshine Products Inc. announced an allergy alert on their AIVIA Power Herbs + Whey Protein Meal Replacement shakes. Nature’s Sunshine Products Inc. chose to recall their protein shakes due to the labels not declaring the milk they contain.

Just a day later, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) followed up Nature’s Sunshine Products’ announcement by publishing the recall on their website with vital information.

This undeclared allergen could have severe repercussions for individuals who accidentally consume the product and have milk allergies. According to the Mayo Clinic, “an allergic reaction usually occurs soon after you or your child consumes milk. Signs and symptoms of milk allergy range from mild to severe and can include wheezing, vomiting, hives and digestive problems. Milk allergy can also cause anaphylaxis — a severe, life-threatening reaction.” If in possession of Nature’s Sunshine Products Inc.’s AIVIA Power Herbs + Whey Protein Meal Replacement Shakes, individuals with milk allergies should be forewarned to discard the product or return to the location of purchase for a complete refund.

The following listed affected Nature’s Sunshine products were distributed throughout the United States between the dates of September 1, 2021 and July 20th, 2022. According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), the forms of distribution included direct-to-consumer online sales as well as independent marketers.
