The Wenona Frozen Foods company stated that the recall includes their packages of frozen raspberries and packages of frozen berry mix that contains raspberries. The frozen raspberries recalled were sold specifically to ALDI Grocery Stores and Raley’s Family of Fine Stores and were subsequently packaged under the private label Season’s Choice. The specific states included in the recall of frozen raspberries as of now are: Alabama, California, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and West Virginia.

The packaged frozen raspberries included in the recall for possible Hepatitis A contamination are the ALDI’s Season’s Choice 12 ounce bags with the “best by” dates of June 6, 2021, August 1, 2021 and August 23, 2021 with the UPC code of 0 41498 12419 9 0 and the Raley’s 12 ounce bags with the “best by” dates of June 5, 20201 and August 1, 2021 with the UPC codes of 46567 00754. The packages of frozen mixed berries included in the recall for possible Hepatitis A contamination are the ALDI’s Season’s Choice frozen berry medley containing raspberries 16 ounce bags with the “best by” dates of July 17, 2021, July 20, 2021 and July 22, 2021 with the UPC code of 0 41498 31344 9.

Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is a highly contagious virus that can be transmitted through food or water as well as close contact with someone infected with the virus. Hepatitis A causes inflammations and can affect the liver. Symptoms typically do not show up for a few weeks and can include: fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain especially near the liver, fever, dark urine and the yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice). If there is concern of illness contact a physician immediately.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) explained that the Wanwona Frozen Foods company is complying is a voluntary recall after a positive test result from a routine government sampling.  The FDA advises consumers that have indeed purchased the recalled berries either throw them away or return the packages for a full refund the place of purchase.
