Brote de Salmonella Javiana vinculado a Tailor Cut Fruit: 96 Casos confirmados.

A partir del 2 de enero de 2020, los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC) han anunciado que han recibido 96 informes de personas afectadas por este brote multiestatal. Aunque la empresa publicó un retiro de su mezcla de frutas con melón, rocío de miel, piña y productos de uva el 7 de diciembre de 2019, nuevos casos relacionados con el brote han seguido apareciendo. La Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos (FDA) está trabajando junto con los CDC y los socios locales para investigar el brote de Salmonella Javian.

Tailor Cut Produce ha informado de que incluso con el retiro aún enacción los productos potencialmente contaminados todavía pueden ser servidos en restaurantes, salas para banquetes, hoteles, escuelas, centros de atención a largo plazo y servicio de comida institucional Establecimientos. La compañía de frutas ha declarado que muchos de los productos potencialmente contaminados pueden haber sido distribuidos a instalaciones en Delaware, Nueva Jersey, Nueva York y Pensilvania. Según la FDA, aunque los casos de salmonela eran de 11 estados diferentes, las personas afectadas por el brote han reportado visitar los cuatro estados principales que recibieron los productos de Tailor Cut una semana antes de que comenzara a tener síntomas.

El último caso notificado del brote fue reportado a los CDC el 10 de diciembre de 2019. Los estados que han reportado casos de Salmonella Javiana son: California (1), Colorado (1), Connecticut (1), Delaware (39), Illinois (1), Minnesota (1), Nueva Jersey (12), Nueva York (4), Pensilvania (34), Virginia (1) y Washington (1). La FDA ha aconsejado a todas las instalaciones que pueden haber recibido productos de Tailor Cut que consulten con su distribuidor para confirmar la fuente de la mezcla de frutas y la fruta cortada utilizada en sus operaciones antes de servirlos.

Las personas normalmente contraen salmonela cuando comen alimentos contaminados con la bacteria Salmonella, lamentablemente no hay manera de distinguir los alimentos contaminados a primera vista, ya que la comida se ve, huele y sabe normal. La Salmonella Javiana, en particular, puede causar casos graves de Salmonellosis. Aquellos que contraen salmonelosis pueden experimentar una enfermedad gastrointestinal de leve a grave y deben ponerse en contacto con un abogado de salmonella tan pronto como puedan recibir asistencia legal.
