Peanut Butter Again Linked to Salmonella Illnesses as nSpired Natural Foods Inc. Issues Recall

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Firm Press Release for the recall of peanut butter produced by nSpired Natural Foods Inc. According to the Press Release, nSpired Natural Foods is voluntarily recalling a large number of lots that include peanut, almond and other nut butters due to their potential to be contaminated with salmonella. According to one source, the recall followed “routine testing,” but a number of other reports indicate that at least four illnesses have been linked to the recalled peanut butter.

The recall includes Arrowhead Mills® Peanut Butters, MaraNatha® Almond Butters, Kroger No- Stir Creamy Almond Butter, and some Almond Butters sold at Trader Joes and Whole Foods. A full list of recalled product can be found at FDA.gov. These peanut and other nut butters were distributed across the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates, the Dominican Republic, and through internet sales.

Ron Simon & Associates Very Active in Past Peanut Butter Outbreaks

The salmonella lawyers at Ron Simon & Associates have taken a leading role in assisting the victims in previous salmonella outbreaks linked to peanut butter, which has been well documented in the national media. One of the most recent salmonella peanut butter outbreaks, in 2012, was an outbreak of Salmonella Bredeney in the organic peanut butter produced by Sunland Inc. It resulted in at least 42 illnesses and was one of the first times the FDA exercised its newly expanded authority to withdraw a company’s certification, forcing it to shutter its doors. In this and other peanut butter salmonella outbreaks, Ron Simon has assisted victims who became ill from salmonella.

“Most victims of salmonella,” says salmonella attorney, Ron Simon, “experience diarrhea, fever, and severe abdominal cramps within 12 to 72 hours after eating the peanut butter. Sometimes, though not always, vomiting can accompany the illness, and usually head and body aches are also associated with salmonella.” What is important, however, is that victims seek medical attention. While most victims will make a full recovery in a couple of weeks, for others, serious illness, long-term side effects, and even death can occur without proper medical attention.
