According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), all fully cooked, frozen chicken and chicken products supplied by Tyson Foods Inc. have been recalled due to Listeria contamination.  This follows the identification of a Fatal Listeria Outbreak that it has linked to Tyson Foods. The CDC identified Tyson Food’s fully cooked, frozen chicken as the likely source of the lissteria that has caused the hospitalization of 3 and death of one individual in the state of Texas.  Following the identification of these injuries, Tyson issued a voluntary recall of the fully cooked chicken and chicken products.

According to Ron Simon, a National Food Poisoning Lawyer whose main office is in Houston, Texas:

“Victims who have symptoms such as fever or a stiff neck, if they have been exposed to a possible source of Listeria, should immediately consult a physician as this could be a sign of bacterial meningitis or encephalitis caused by ingestion of listeria. Physicians have options in cases of suspected Listeriosis, and can do a blood or spinal fluid cultures.  Listeria is also especially dangerous in pregnant women due to its link to miscarriages and still births.”

If experiencing any of the afore-mentioned symptoms, especially if having consumed Tyson Food Inc. ‘s fully cooked chicken or chicken products, individuals should contact their health provider as soon as possible.

Tyson Foods Inc.’s afore-mentioned fully cooked chicken products were distributed at retail stores across the nation, as well as to  hospitals, restaurants, schools, Department of Defense centers and nursing home locations.  The contaminated product was sold under such names/at such establishments as Tyson, Jet’s Pizza, Marco’s Pizza, Circle K, Casey’s General Store, and Little Ceasar’s, Many, though perhaps not all, product contained the   establishment number “EST. P-7089.”  A more complete list of sources can be found on the FSIS and FDA websites.

Customers are strongly encouraged to throw out any Tyson Food Inc. fully cooked chicken and chicken products, as they are potentially contaminated with Listeria, or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.  According to the CDC announcement, customers will be refunded entirely if the product is brought back to the location of purchase. Additionally, customers should disinfect any containers or refrigerators used for storing the afore-mentioned products or surfaces that came in contact with the listeria-contaminated products.

As of the eleventh of August,2021, three individuals have been hospitalized due to this Listeria outbreak, and one individual has already passed away.
