Popular YouTuber Billy LeBlanc, known for his channel with over 200,000 subscribers, recently shared sad news with his followers. In an emotional update posted on July 16, LeBlanc revealed that his girlfriend, Natalie Clark, had passed away following a severe illness caused by consuming contaminated raw oysters, according to Indy 100.

LeBlanc explained that both he and Clark were sickened after eating oysters together. LeBlanc endured a lengthy 12-day hospital stay, including eight days in the intensive care unit. When he woke up,LeBlanc learned Clark had passed away. He admits to having little memory of this time, stating he was “out of it” for most of his hospitalization.

In a heartfelt tribute to Clark, LeBlanc shared fond memories of their time together, saying, “I will always remember how we got lost everywhere together. I will always love her and miss her.” He urged his followers to cherish their loved ones and stay safe.

LeBlanc later clarified that their illness was caused by Vibrio vulnificus, a rare but serious bacterial infection associated with consuming raw or undercooked shellfish. This infection affects approximately 100 to 200 people annually in the United States.  According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), as many as one in five people with a Vibrio vulnificus die due to rapidly escalating symptoms like bloodstream infections, severe skin blistering, and limb amputations.

Food Poisoning News has previously reported on a woman in Florida who developed a rare form of flesh-eating Vibrio, which can be caused by various species, including Vibrio vulnificus.  In that incident, the woman was exposed while deep sea fishing with her parents.  Although she was left with a significant scar on her leg, the woman fortunately avoided amputation.

The YouTube community and LeBlanc’s followers have rallied around him, offering condolences and support. Many expressed shock at the sudden loss and empathy for LeBlanc, who has faced significant challenges in recent years.

This heartbreaking story has resonated with many, prompting discussions about food safety, the unpredictability of life, and the importance of cherishing relationships. As LeBlanc navigates this difficult period, he says he’s “trying to figure his life out.”

Commenting on this story, one national food poisoning lawyer said, “This incident is a reminder that there are potential risks associated with consuming raw seafood.  However, restaurants must still adhere to strict food safety standards and preparation procedures to ensure the health and enjoyment of their customers.”
