The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall by Quebec, Canada-based Agropur Dairy Cooperative of Central Dairies brand and S’Milk brand 2% Partly Skimmed Milk due to spoilage.

Background

The recall notice did not specify how the spoilage in the affected products was discovered but news outlets have reported that the recall was initiated after the company received customer complaints of finding black residue in the milk cartons.

According to the CBC, “the recall was caused by a quality issue that emerged within the plant that seemed to prematurely spoil milk within the affected dates.”

Distribution

The recalled milk was distributed in the Candian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Commercial Action

As with all food recalls, consumers are strongly advised to discontinue use of the affected milk even if it looks or smells safe to eat.

Per the recall notice, hotels, restaurants, and institutions should not sell, serve, or distribute the recalled products.

The recall notice did not state whether or not the products could be returned to the place of purchase but a company executive, quoted by the CBC, said that the affected products could be returned for a credit.

Consumers with additional questions or concerns can contact the CFIA by phone at 800-442-2342 toll free in either Canada or the United States or by email at [email protected].

Health Risks

The recall notice did not state whether or not there have been any illnesses or injuries in connection with the recalled milk..

Commenting on this article, one national food poisoning lawyer said, “Consumers who have been exposed to the recalled product, and are experiencing sickness of any kind, should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
