Hot on the heels of last week’s multiple food product recalls due to contamination with foreign material comes even more recalls and alerts connected to foreign matter contamination. Food contaminated with foreign objects, like metal and plastic has the potential to cause severe harm, including choking, injury, illness, damage to teeth and tongue, or even death.

A recall by The Karma Sauce Company LLC, based in Rochester, New York, first announced on February 14, 2025 Hot Ones brand Verde and Rojo Los Calientes Hot Sauces by Heatonist due to the potential presence of plastic remains ongoing.

A recall by Great Lakes Cheese Co Inc, based in Hiram, Ohio, first announced on February 15, 2025, for 400 cases of Happy Farms by ALDI Colby Jack shredded cheese due to possible contamination with stainless steel fragments remains ongoing.

A recall by The Fillo Factory Inc, based in Northvale, New Jersey, first announced on February 12, 2025, for 35,580 cases of Chef’s Line US Foods Black Bean Burger, 30,827 cases of Chef’s Line US Foods 3 Grain Burger, and 8,107 cases of Chef’s Line US Foods 3 Grain Slider due to potential metal contamination with a bolt remains ongoing.

Idaho Smokehouse Partners, LLC, based in Shelley, Idaho, is voluntarily recalling approximately 29,541 pounds of Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild ready to eat beef stick product due to foreign object contamination with metal.

Background

The recall for the Idaho Smokehouse Partners ready to eat beef stick products was initiated after the company received complaints from two consumers that pieces of metal were found in the product.

No press releases were issued for the other recalls. How the contamination with foreign material was found in each affected product has not been released.

The recalled Hot Ones brand Verde and Rojo Los Calientes Hot Sauces by Heatonist were distributed in Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, and Ohio.

The recalled Happy Farms by ALDI Colby Jack shredded cheese was distributed only to ALDI retail stores in Connecticut, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Consumer Action

Consumers should search their homes to see if they have the recalled products. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is concerned that the recalled Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild product may be in consumer’s pantries.

As with all food recalls, consumers are strongly advised to discontinue use of the affected product even if it looks or smells safe to eat or if there are no visible signs of contamination by foreign objects. Foreign material embedded in the recalled products may be too small to be seen by the human eye.

Anyone in possession of the recalled products should not sell, serve, donate, or distribute them.

The recalled Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild product can be returned to the place of purchase for a refund or should be thrown away. Consumers with additional questions or concerns can contact the company at 208-227-5282.

Consumers in possession of all other recalled products should contact the place of purchase to ask if they can be returned for a refund. Otherwise the recalled items should be disposed of immediately.

Health Risks

The Chomps Original Beef Stick Mild recall notice said there have been no reports of injury or illness linked to consumption of the product.

The other recall notices did not say if there have been any reports of injuries in connection with the consumption of the impacted products.

Any consumer who has been exposed to the affected products, and is experiencing sickness or injury, should contact their medical provider immediately.

Food contaminated with foreign material has the potential to cause severe harm, including choking, injury, illness, damage to teeth, gums, tongue, throat, mouth, stomach, and intestines or even death in most people. Infants, the elderly, and recent surgery patients could also be at extreme risk of serious injury.

Commenting on this article, the nation’s leading food poisoning lawyer said, “Although consumption of objects that are contaminated with foreign material can be especially dangerous to certain people, such as small children or senior citizens, it is nonetheless potentially hazardous to anyone. I strongly advise consumers to search their homes and businesses for the recalled products and dispose of them right away to reduce the risk to themselves, families, and all others.”
