Air India Flight Lands Safely After Suspected Onboard Food Poisoning

An Air India flight from London to Mumbai landed safely Monday after multiple passengers and crew members reported feeling dizzy and nauseous during the journey.

Flight AI-130, operated with a Boeing 777 aircraft, experienced health incidents involving at least two crew members and five passengers who became ill during different phases of the flight, according to an Air India spokesperson.

The aircraft continued its scheduled route despite the medical issues and touched down safely at Mumbai’s airport, where medical teams were stationed and ready to assist.

Following the landing, two passengers and two cabin crew members who continued experiencing symptoms were escorted to the airport’s medical facility for examination. All four individuals were subsequently discharged after evaluation, the airline confirmed.

Air India has launched an investigation into the incident and has notified aviation regulators as required by standard protocols. The spokesperson did not provide details about the potential cause of the illnesses.

The cause of the health incidents remains undetermined pending the airline’s investigation. Media reports have suggested two possible explanations for the passenger and crew symptoms.

One report indicated that oxygen deficiency may have caused the nausea and dizziness, potentially resulting from cabin decompression or a gradual reduction in cabin pressure during flight.

A separate media account cited an unnamed senior airline official who identified food poisoning as another possible cause. However, the same official noted that the flight’s pilots, who receive the same meals as passengers but after passenger service, did not report any health issues.

The incident highlights standard aviation safety procedures, says leading nationwide food poisoning law firm Ron Simon & Associates, with medical teams positioned at the destination airport and regulatory authorities notified according to established protocols.

Air India operates regular service between London and Mumbai using wide-body aircraft on this international route. The airline has not released additional information about the investigation’s timeline or when results might be available.

Aviation authorities typically conduct thorough reviews of in-flight medical incidents to determine causes and implement any necessary safety measures. The investigation will examine multiple factors including cabin systems, food service procedures, and environmental conditions during the flight.

All affected passengers and crew members have been cleared by medical personnel and released from hospital care.
