Danone U.S., based in White Plains, New York and Louisville, Colorado, has issued a voluntary recall notice for various YoCrunch yogurt products due to plastic contamination. Food contaminated with foreign objects, like plastic, has the potential to cause severe harm, including choking, injury, illness, damage to teeth, or even death.

Background

The recall was issued after customers complained that plastic pieces were found in the product dome topper.

The recall notice said that the “plastic pieces are transparent, may have sharp edges, and could present a risk to consumers because some pieces are between 7 and 25 mm in length.”

Distribution

The impacted products were sold at retail outlets across the United States.

Consumer Action

Consumers should search their homes to see if they have the affected items.

As with all food health alerts and food recalls, consumers are strongly advised to discontinue use of the affected product even if it looks or smells safe to eat or if there are no visible signs of contamination by foreign objects.

Anyone in possession of the products should not sell, serve, donate, or distribute them.

The recalled item should be disposed of immediately.

Consumers with additional questions or concerns or for information on refunds can contact the company at 877-344-4886 from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 6 pm ET.

Health Risks

The recall notice did not say if there have been any reports of injuries in connection with the consumption of the impacted products.

Ron Simon & Associates, one of the leading food poisoning law firms says that anyone who has consumed a product with plastic, and has experienced an injury, should contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Food contaminated with plastic has the potential to cause severe harm, including choking, injury, illness, damage to teeth, gums, tongue, throat, mouth, stomach, and intestines or even death in most people. Infants, the elderly, and recent surgery patients could also be at extreme risk of serious injury.
