Food Poisoning Strikes Bollywood Film Set
LADAKH – The production of the upcoming Bollywood film “Dhurandhar”, starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, has been temporarily suspended following a mass food poisoning incident that resulted in over 120 crew members being hospitalized in India’s Ladakh region. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 17, 2025, and prompted an emergency response from local emergency services
According to the hospital staff, the facility experienced a sudden influx of patients, necessitating the call-in of additional doctors to manage the situation. By the end of the day, approximately 120 admissions were recorded, all of whom received treatment for symptoms consistent with food poisoning. The medical official confirmed that while the majority of the affected crew members have been discharged in stable condition, five people remain under observation for further monitoring. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties.
Symptoms exhibited by the patients included severe dehydration, abdominal pain, vomiting, acute gastroenteritis, and headaches. The medical superintendent attributed the illnesses to food arranged on the film sets, which reportedly led to diarrhoea and vomiting among the crew. Food samples have been collected and sent for examination to determine the exact cause of the contamination, though final laboratory reports are still pending.
The local government provided significant assistance during the crisis, helping to manage crowd control and patient transfers within the hospital. Family members of the affected crew also expressed gratitude for the support received from medical staff during the treatment process.
Although the makers of “Dhurandhar” have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, reports indicate that director Aditya Dhar is personally overseeing the situation and ensuring that the crew receives the best possible medical care. The film, which features a star-studded cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, is scheduled for release on December 5, 2025.
This incident has not only disrupted the shooting schedule but also raised concerns about safety protocols on film sets in remote locations. As investigations continue, the police have collected food samples for detailed analysis to identify the cause and determine accountability.
11 Suffer Suspected Food Poisoning After Bakery Visit
NAVI MUMBAI – Eleven women were hospitalized due to food poisoning after consuming “pedhe,” an Indian confection purchased from a popular bakery chain.
The affected experienced symptoms including dizziness and vomiting approximately one hour after consumption and were admitted to a local hospital for treatment. Medical officials confirmed that all eleven women are now in stable condition and have been discharged.
The incident has raised concerns among residents regarding the efficacy of food safety monitoring, particularly the oversight of bakery operations in the region by the Food and Drugs Administration department.
This event reflects broader challenges related to foodborne illnesses in India, where contaminated food and water remain significant public health issues. According to recent reports, India recorded over 1,000 outbreaks of acute diarrheal disease in 2024, the highest number since data tracking began in 2009, alongside 300 documented cases of food poisoning. Common symptoms of such illnesses include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, dehydration, and fever, with severe cases often requiring hospitalization, especially among vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
Food safety authorities continue to stress the importance of proper food handling and storage to prevent contamination. In a related advisory, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) warned against using newspapers for wrapping, storing, or serving food, citing risks associated with ink chemicals and environmental contaminants. The FSSAI recommends alternative packaging materials, such as insulated containers for hot foods and reusable boxes for perishables, to minimize health risks.
The specific cause of the Navi Mumbai incident remains under investigation.
Students Hospitalized With Food Poisoning Symptoms
MEDININAGAR – Last Monday, six female students from a government school were hospitalized after experiencing symptoms including vomiting and abdominal pain. The students had consumed breakfast at the school before suddenly developing nausea and discomfort. Hospital authorities confirmed that all six patients were in stable condition and were placed under medical observation for a 24-hour period as a precautionary measure.
According to a hospital spokesperson, the students exhibited symptoms such as vomiting and abdominal pain but did not present signs of dehydration. The students arrived at the facility around 2:30 PM and received immediate medical attention, including intravenous injections and fluids. While the exact cause of the illness remains under investigation, the hospital that food poisoning or water contamination could not be ruled out.
The district education officer provided additional context, explaining that the students had been observing a religious fast and had consumed an oily breakfast, which may have contributed to intestinal distress. Several other students from the same school were treated locally for bowel irritation.
