Hickory Hollow Jerky Recalls Over 6,000 Pounds of Uninspected Products

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced that Hickory Hollow Jerky, based in Eufaula, Alabama, is recalling approximately 6,229 pounds of ready-to-eat jerky products. The recall was initiated because these products were produced without the required federal inspection.

Background

The issue came to light during routine FSIS surveillance activities. It was discovered that the company continued to produce and label jerky products with the USDA mark of inspection after requesting to voluntarily halt FSIS-inspection activities.

The affected beef jerky and bacon jerky items were manufactured between January 19, 2024, and August 21, 2024. During this period, the establishment underwent a change in ownership on June 11, 2024. However, both the company name and product names remained unchanged.

FSIS conducts recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the recalling firm has notified its customers about the recall and that steps are being taken to remove the product from the market.

Distribution

These items were distributed to retail locations across several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Oklahoma. Additionally, the products were sold online.

Consumer Action

Consumers should search their homes for the recalled product.

Consumers are advised to either discard these products or return them to the point of purchase.

Consumers with additional questions or concerns can contact Charles O’Neill, the current co-owner of Hickory Hollow Jerky by phone at 262-745-5103 or via email at [email protected], or Russ Robbins, the previous owner at 334-695-5238 or [email protected].

Health Risks

As of now, there have been no reports of illness or injury in connection with the recalled jerky products.  However, any consumer who has been exposed to the products and is experiencing a reaction should contact their healthcare provider.

Commenting on this story, one national food poisoning lawyer said, “Federal inspections help to ensure the safety of our food supply.  Any consumer with the recalled products in their homes should discontinue use immediately.”
