Distribution

The affected product, Door County Love Dark Chocolate Cherry, was distributed to Kick Ash Product’s retail store in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin and online at kickashproducts.com between February 26, 2024 and March 11, 2024.

Background

The recall stemmed from Kick Ash’s discovery that the product contained almonds and was distributed without proper almond disclosure on the packaging. Further investigation revealed that a temporary breakdown in the company’s production processes led to the issue.  Consumers who have purchased the affected product are urged to to check the packaging for the information in the recall notice.

Product Details

  • Product Name:  Door County Love Dark Chocolate Cherry Granola
  • Packaging:  Plastic bags with red label and clear heart-shaped window
  • Size:  1 lb. (454 g)
  • Lot Number: #061241
  • Best By Date: August 31, 2024

What Consumers Should Do

  1. Check their pantry for the specified product, lot number, and best by date
  2. Do Not Consume – Even if the granola appears fine, do not consume it if they have an almond allergy.
  3. Return for Refund – Consumers who have the affected product are urged to return it to Kick Ash Products for a full refund.
  4. Contact Kick Ash Products: Consumers with any questions or concerns  can reach out to the company Tuesday through Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm Central Time at 1-920-854-9400.

Health Risks

Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported to date but consumers should check with their healthcare provider if they have any concerns about potential exposure to an almond allergen and monitor for any symptoms of allergic reaction.  Almonds are a common allergen, and individuals with almond allergies face serious health risks if they unknowingly consume products containing almonds. Symptoms of almond allergy can include:

  • Hives
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Swelling of the lips or throat
  • Anaphylaxis, which requires immediate medical attention

Stay Informed

One national food safety attorney says consumers should stay informed and keep an eye on official announcements and updates from Kick Ash Products and the FDA. Consumers can also regularly check for recalls and safety alerts on sites like Food Poisoning News to protect themselves and their family.
