17 people ill in King County, WA, after eating at Lahori Kabab-n-Grill

At least 17 people who were part of a single meal party dining at Lahori Kabab-n-Grill in Kent, Washington, have become ill with gastroenteritis that may be linked to a bacteria infection. The affected consumers reported nausea, cramping, and diarrhea after consuming food and beverage from the buffet at Lahori Kabab-n-Grill on June 10, 2018.

The investigation is ongoing; however, those who became ill have symptoms that are suggestive of bacterial toxin, such as Bacillus cereus or Clostridium perfringens. The source of the outbreak has not yet been identified.

King County health officials are investigating the outbreak. They found a number of food safety issues at the restaurant when visiting just two days after the potentially contaminated meal was consumed. The investigators reported that the restaurant’s facilities were not adequate for buffet or catering services. Lahori Kabab-n-Grill has suspended their operations until they can be inspected and approved by public health officials. The restaurant is located at 26220 116th Ave SE in Kent, Washington.

It has not yet been determined what caused the illnesses. However, B. cereus and C. perfringens are both suspected. Both are bacteria that grow rapidly at room temperature. These bacteria are found in a variety of foods, including meats, rice, leftovers, sauces, soups, and other prepared foods, particularly those that have sat out too long at room temperature in a facility that was not following food safety protocol.

Contaminated foods could have been stored outside of safe temperature ranges at some point prior to arrival at the restaurant, possibly allowing for enough growth of the bacteria or their spores, which then can’t be completely removed by proper refrigeration and cooking.

If you are a victim of the bacteria contamination at Lahori Kabab-n-Grill in Kent, Washington, please contact the food poisoning lawyers at 1-888-335-4901 to learn more about your legal options.
