Ascent Consumer Products Inc., based in Melville, New York, has announced a voluntary recall of one lot of SinuCleanse Soft Tip Squeeze Bottle Nasal Wash System due to contamination with Staphylococcus aureus, a pathogen that can cause serious, and sometimes severe, foodborne illness in certain populations.

Background

In the recall notice, the company said that recall was “…being initiated due to a confirmed test result of microbial contamination of the product with Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus).”

Distribution

The impacted product lot was distributed across the United States in January 2025 to retail and online channels.

The company said that distributors and customers are being notified of the recall by electronic mail.

Product Details

  • Product – SinuCleanse Soft Tip Squeeze Bottle Nasal Wash System
  • Packaging – Carton with squeeze bottle and 30 saline packets
  • Lot Number – 024122661A1
  • Expiration Date – 12/31/2027

Consumer and Commercial Action

As with all food and drug recalls, consumers are strongly advised to discontinue use of the affected product even if they look or smell safe to eat or use.

Anyone in possession of the recalled product is requested to not sell, serve, or distribute them. Distributors and retailers are requested to remove the recalled lot from their inventory.

The affected product should be returned to the place of purchase or thrown away immediately.

Consumers should thoroughly sanitize any surface or other material that has come into contact with the impacted product.

Consumers with additional questions or concerns can contact the company by email at [email protected] from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm Eastern Time.

Health Risks

No injuries or adverse reactions in connection with use of the recalled product has been reported. Any consumer experiencing a reaction or side effects after contact with the impacted product should contact their healthcare provider immediately.

Staphylococcus aureus is a gram-positive bacterium that is commonly found not only on the skin and in the noses of healthy people, but also in raw food and food-producing animals. Staphylococcus aureus can cause severe illness, particularly in those suffering from cancer, diabetes, eczema, lung disease, and IV drug users.

Commenting on this article, the nation’s leading Staphylococcus aureus lawyer said, “Food and drug contaminated with Staphylococcus aureus is relatively rare. However, an infection should still be treated promptly as early diagnosis and treatment can improve outcomes and reduce the risk of complications.”
