On the 16th of June, 2023, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published Conagra Brands, Inc.’s recall of Marie Callender’s Shepherd’s Pie Products due to potential contamination with foreign matters. The recall was reportedly initiated due to the discovery of plastic-like, flexible, clear material in a Marie Callender frozen beef pie.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service shared in the report that the recalled Marie Callender frozen beef pies were produced on the first of March, 2023. The following weights, Lot codes, Best By Dates and other descriptions were provided by Conagra Brands Inc., the producer of the recalled Marie Callender frozen shepherd beef pies: “4.31 lbs. cases of “MC Beef Shepherd’s Pie” with lot code 5006306020, BEST BY FEB 24 2024 and case code 2113100032, containing six 11.5 oz. carton packages of “Marie Callender’s BEEF SHEPHERD’S PIE” with lot code 5006306020 and BEST BY FEB 24 2024 on the side panel, with time stamps ranging between 17:45-17:56.” The Russellville, Arkansas based company, Conagra Brands, shared that approximately 2,717 pounds of Marie Callender’s frozen beef shepherd pies are included in this recall.
While no individuals have yet reported or are known of to have been adversely affected by the foreign material in the shepherd’s pies, individuals are strongly encouraged to avoid consumption of Conagra Brand Inc.’s Marie Callender Frozen Beef Shepherd Pies. If experiencing abnormal symptoms after consumption of the afore-mentioned product, individuals should immediately contact their personal healthcare provider and alert their local public health safety officials.
