Over 30,000 Pounds of Beef Tallow Recalled Due to Missing Federal Inspection

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Common Sense Soap, based in North Walpole, New Hampshire, is recalling over 30,000 pounds of beef tallow. The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the products were processed, packaged, and labeled without required federal inspection oversight.

Background

FSIS was notified by a local health department who found that Lady May Tallow had contracted Common Sense Soap, a company without a federal grant of inspection, to process, package, and label the recalled product. The presence of nutrition facts labels on the products could mislead consumers into believing they were safe for human consumption.

Distribution

The products were distributed by Lady May Tallow to wholesalers and retailers across the United States.

Consumer Action

FSIS has expressed concern that some products may still be present in consumer’s homes.

As with all food recalls, consumers are strongly advised to discontinue use of the affected products even if it looks or smells safe to eat.

Anyone in possession of the recalled products should not sell, serve, or distribute them.

The affected product can be returned to the place of purchase or thrown away.

Consumers with additional questions or concerns can contact Chris McDonald, Owner of Lady May Tallow, by phone at 601-270-7410 or email at [email protected].

Health Risks

No adverse reactions in connection with the consumption of these products have been reported. However, any consumer experiencing health issues in relation to the recalled items should contact their healthcare provider immediately.

Commenting on this article, the nation’s leading food poisoning lawyer said, “Because the recalled products have been produced without federal inspection oversight, I strongly recommend that any consumer in possession of the impacted items cease all use to reduce any risks of consuming a product that may not be fit for humans.”
