On the 25th of September, 2023 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published Del Valle Import and Export LLC’s recall of Pork Chicharrones product. The product has been recalled due to an import violation, as the Pork Chicharrones was produced in Honduras, a country banned from distributing pork products in the United States of America.
During a scheduled inspection by the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Safety and Inspection Service, it was discovered that the product bearing the title, “DEL RANCHO CHICHARRONES AUTENTICOS 100% PRODUCTO DE CERDO,” was a product of Honduras. Packaged in 100g foil pouch units, the affected Pork Chicharrones product was reportedly distributed in four different states in the United States, to various retailers. The states containing the recalled products are Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Due to the Central America-Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) of 2004, Honduras is ineligible to export pork products to the United States of America as was done by the Kenner, Los Angeles-based Del Valle Import and Export LLC with the afore-mentioned Pork Chicharrones product. Customers in the states of Georgia, Louisiana, Texas or Mississippi may still be in possession of the recalled pork product; in which case, they should either discard the product or return to the location of purchase for a full refund.
While no adverse reactions in connection to this recalled product has been reported, the USDA FSIS has categorized this as a High Risk-Class I recall, which is described as, “…a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
