Chipotle Norovirus Outbreak in Sterling, Virginia Reminiscent of Simi Valley Outbreak Two Years Ago

The outbreak of norovirus at the Sterling, Virginia, Chipotle is a stark reminder that food safety cannot be taken for granted, and that a commitment to good food production standards and personal hygiene among employees is of paramount importance. Now, with news of yet another outbreak of food poisoning linked to one of its restaurants, the popular chain is seeing another fall in Chipotle stock prices.

So far, the most recent stock decline is less precipitous than the fall in 2017, but to some food safety experts, this outbreak could spell doom for the company.  Some believe yet another Chipotle Norovirus lawsuit will be needed to compel change:

It’s only a matter of time until Chipotle’s reputation becomes synonymous with food borne illness, and people stop eating there.  It may take another Chipotle Norovirus lawsuit to get them to take food safety serious.

The current outbreak is reminiscent of the 2015 outbreak of norovirus in Simo Valley , California, in that it seems to have affected at least as many  people – by most reports, well over one humdred. There is no official count yet, but the outbreak seems to have much more wide-spread than initially reported.  Judging by the number of calls the norovirus attorneys at 1-888-335-4901 have received, and numbers victims have reported hearing from health experts, this could surpass the numbers believed implicated in 2015  in the Simi Valley outbreak.  One victim, claiming to have been treated at a regional medical center, reported hearing that as many as three dozen victims of the outbreak had been treated at that location alone. No official numbers of confirmation is available at this time and the source of the norovirus (how it was introduced into the food) remains unclear. In 2015, some blamed the company’s pressure on sick employees to come to work even while ill.
