Green beans recalled for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination

Green bean products, individually quick frozen and produced and sold by National Frozen Foods Corporation, are being recalled because of a possible Listeria monocytogenes bacteria contamination. The green bean products are sold at US Department of Defense commissaries.

All of the potentially affected green bean products have been removed from the commissary shelves and the recall notice has been posted on the US Department of Defense Commissary Agency website.

The recalled products include SYS IMP Bean Green Whole IQF NWP, 12/2 pounds: Lot number 17102703A03, MPC V5404; NW TRES Bean Green Cut, 1/30 pounds: Lot number 17102603A02, MPC 62406-9007; and SYS CLS Bean Green Cut GR A P, 12/2 pounds: Lot number 17102703A03, MPC 1435197.

Although there have been no illnesses reported that have been directly linked to the green bean products, the illness caused by the pathogenic bacteria contamination, listeriosis, can take up to 70 days to manifest and show symptoms in the infected person. Listeriosis symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

For food safety purposes, anyone who has purchased these green bean products should not consume them. Care should also be taken not to spread the contamination across cooking surfaces. The product should be disposed of, double wrapped in a sealed bag, or returned to the store for a refund.

Food poisoning can also occur in the refrigerator. If any of the contaminated products touched the inside surfaces, those should be cleaned thoroughly with bleach or another appropriate cleaning solution.

For more information about Listeria monocytogenes bacteria contamination, the National Frozen Foods Corporation Listeria recall of frozen green bean products, or food safety, contact the food poisoning lawyers at 1-888-335-4901.
