Imperial Caviar & Seafood Recall Over Fears of Clostridium Botulinum

10th recall for Imperial Caviar & Seafood brand and VIP Caviar Club brand whitefish and salmon roe

Originally announced as a recall in November 2017, Imperial Caviar & Seafood and VIP Caviar Club brand roe is now the subject of a tenth recall notice, with an update being issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency on February 1, 2018. Additional products are now included in the recall.

The recall notice has been issued by Imperial Caviar & Seafood because the products listed may permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum. Consumers should not consume these recalled products, all with “best before” dates of December 13 or 15, 2018:

  • VIP Caviar Club Salmon Roe, 50 g
  • VIP Caviar Club Salmon Roe, 100 g
  • Imperial Caviar & Seafood Salmon Roe, 50 g
  • Imperial Caviar & Seafood Salmon Roe, 100 g
  • Outer package: Imperial Caviar & Seafood Salmon Roe / Inner package: VIP Caviar Club Salmon Roe, 50 g
  • Outer package: Imperial Caviar & Seafood Golden Whitefish Roe / Inner package: VIP Caviar Club Whitefish Roe, 50 g
  • Imperial Caviar & Seafood Whitefish Roe, 50 g

These products, potentially contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, may not look or smell spoiled to the consumer. To date, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products; however, consumers who have purchased any of these recalled products should not eat them. They should be returned or disposed of properly.

Clostridium botulinum symptoms may include facial paralysis or loss of facial expression, unreactive or fixed pupils, difficulty swallowing, drooping eyelids, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking or slurred speech, and a change in sound of voice, including hoarseness.
