Cardamom pods recalled for salmonella contamination
Starwest Botanicals has announced a recall of cardamom pods that were sold between mid-January and early March 2018 because of potential salmonella contamination. Cardamom is one of the most expensive spices in the world. It is used in tea, coffee, as well as in spicy and mild food dishes, including sausage and even pastries.
The recall is specific to Starwest Botanicals Organic Cardamom Pods Green (Whole), which is packaged in Mylar one-pound bags and in bulk packs, sold between January 15, 2018 and March 2, 2018.
Recalled cardamom pods have been sold across the US. The products were either shipped directly to Starwest Botanicals customers, who purchased the pods online from the company’s website or through mail order, or were picked up by customers at Starwest Botanicals in Sacramento, California.
The recalled items include:
- The lot number of Starwest Botanicals Organic Cardamom Pods Green (Whole) 1 pound with UPC 7-6796302528-9. The item# 209735-01 and lot number (75593) can be found on the label affixed to the bag.
- The lot number of Starwest Botanicals Organic Cardamom Pods Green (Whole) bulk pack with UPC 7-6796302527-2. The item# 209735-00 and lot number (90186-00) can be found on the label affixed to the bulk pack.
