Stolen tilapia potentially contaminated with salmonella

Golden International Corporation is warning consumers, restaurants, and distributors, in a food safety notice, not to buy or eat tilapia that has been stolen from their container yard in Renton, Washington. The stolen fish may be contaminated with salmonella.

405 cartons of frozen tilapia that was being shipped to Taiwan was stolen from the Golden International Corporations container yard in Renton on April 29. The container was recovered in Everett, Washington, on May 9. Frozen round and whole tilapia may have been sold in the surrounding areas during that time period.

The container of frozen tilapia was being re-exported to Taiwan because a routine sampling that had been conducted by Michelson Laboratories to determine health safety found salmonella in the fish. Understanding that the entire shipment could be compromised, Golden International Corporation loaded it on a truck for re-export. However, local trucking was unable to deliver it to the port before the weekend. It was therefore left in the lot at Golden International and was carried off using a stolen truck.

The label on the master case of the stolen tilapia reads:

***FROZEN TILAPIA FISH IQF***(FARM RAISED)***

***MANUFACTURER NO.: 7F3001***PACKED FOR GOLDEN INTERNATIONAL***

***PRODUCT OF TAIWAN*** NET WEIGHT 40 LBS***

Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. If you have consumed salmonella contaminated tilapia that was involved in the theft from Golden International Corporation, please contact the food poisoning lawyers at 1-888-335-4901 to discuss your legal options, including the possibility of a Salmonella lawsuit.
