Cadbury Chocolate Recall in the United Kingdom Due to Packaging Mistake Regarding Nut Allergies

One of Cadbury’s Christmas products, Dairy Milk Little Robins, have been urgently recalled due to a packaging mistake.  Some of the chocolate contained almonds, but this was not disclosed on the product itself.  This mistake could be a serious problem for customers with a nut allergy who purchased the Little Robins chocolate.

The company based in Mondelez, United Kingdom became aware of their packaging mistake due to some of the chocolate being used to make the Dairy Milk Little Robins.  As a result, this chocolate contained almonds, and the packaging of the chocolate treats did not have the appropriate nut allergy warning.  The Food Standard Agency (FSA) shared on their website the recall notice as well as this statement:

“Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product). Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”

The affected packages that have been recalled from Cadbury will have a batch code of either CIS3092812 or CIS3092822 and will have the “best before date” of March, 31, 2020. Customers are urged to check for these codes before consuming the chocolate and if the nut allergy is a concern, costumers should return the product to the place of purchase.
