Wesco Mint No Bake Cookies Recalled Due to Undeclared Peanut

Wesco Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of their Mint No Bake Cookies after it was discovered that the product may contain peanut, an allergen that is not declared on the packaging. The recalled cookies were distributed to Wesco stores in Michigan’s lower peninsula.

Further inquiry showed the contamination was the result of product formula errors in the company’s software system at the manufacturing plant.

Consumers who recently purchased Wesco Mint No Bake Cookies should check the product for the specific information identified in the recall notice:

  • Product:  Wesco Mint No Bake Cookie Bites
  • Packaging: Clear plastic container
  • Size:  9-oz.
  • UPC Code: 0750308040474
  • Sell Thru Dates:  3/15/24, 3/16/24, 3/17/24, 3/18/24

Consumers should return recalled cookies to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions can also contact the company at 231-719-4385 or by email at [email protected].

No illnesses have been reported to date but consumers should also consult with their healthcare provider if they have any concerns about potential exposure to peanut allergens and monitor for any symptoms of allergic reaction.

Peanuts and peanut-flavored foods are enjoyed by many consumers.  However, the presence of undeclared peanut allergens poses a serious threat to individuals with peanut allergies. Accidental consumption of peanuts by allergic individuals can trigger severe allergic reactions, including

  • Anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly
  • Skin reactions like hives, redness, or swelling
  • Itching or tingling in or around the throat and mouth
  • Digestive problems, such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, or vomiting,
  • Shortness of breath or wheezing
  • Trouble breathing or swallowing

According to one national food poisoning lawyer, food allergies are an increasingly common issue, with peanut allergies being among the most severe.  This is why it is critical for food manufacturers to not only follow proper labeling procedures to alert consumers to the presence of allergens, but also adhere to strict quality control measures to ensure that their products are safe for consumption.  Consumers can also play a role by staying informed about product recalls and food safety alerts by regularly checking for updates from reliable sources such as the FDA and Food Poisoning News to help ensure they are aware of any potential risks associated with the products they purchase and consume.
