On the 24th of June, 2022, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), along with Blount Fine Foods, announced the voluntary recall of Panera Bread’s Southwest Corn Chowder. The Southwest Corn Chowder is being recalled due to it containing some undeclared wheat allergens.
According to the Mayo Clinic, “A child or adult with wheat allergy is likely to develop signs and symptoms within minutes to hours after eating something containing wheat. Wheat allergy signs and symptoms include: Swelling, itching or irritation of the mouth or throat, Hives, itchy rash or swelling of the skin, nasal congestion, headache, difficulty breathing, cramps, nausea or vomiting, or anaphylaxis.”
Consumers with wheat allergies should steer clear of Blount Fine Food’s Panera Bread Southwest Corn Chowder entirely, discard of the product as soon as possible if in possession of it, or return to the location of purchase for a full refund. Additionally, individuals who find themselves experiencing the afore-mentioned symptoms should contact their personal health care provider and alert their public health authorities as soon as possible, in order to seek treatment and share information on the outbreak.
According to the company, only a single lot is being recalled, which totals 2,569 cases of Southwest Corn Chowder. The recalled Panera at Home Southwest Corn Chowder Cups have the lot number of 042122-2K and a “Use By” Date of June 30th, 2022.
These limited products were distributed across the United States in the states CA, IA, IL, MA, ME, MI, NH, NY, OH, TX, VA, WA. Blount Fine Foods’ Panera Bread Southwest Corn Chowder was not distributed at any Panera Bread stores, but only at select real grocery stores.
