Frozen Pet Food Recall: Salmonella Risk in Raw Bistro Beef Entrée

On October 10, 2025, Raw Bistro Pet Fare in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, announced a voluntary recall of certain frozen beef dog-food products because of the potential presence of Salmonellosis-causing Salmonella bacteria.

The recall affects two identified products:

  • Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Frozen — 3-lb bags (UPC 858833002247), Lot 239, Best By 08/27/2026.
  • Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass-Fed Beef Entrée, Frozen — 18-lb bulk cases (UPC 858833002629), Lot 239, Best By 08/27/2026.

According to the FDA notice, the affected product was distributed between September 1 and September 17, 2025, via both direct-to-consumer sales and select distributors in California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota.

Why the Recall Matters

While these are pet food products, Salmonella contamination affects both animals and humans: pets may develop symptoms such as diarrhea (sometimes bloody), vomiting, lethargy, fever or reduced appetite. Infected pets can also carry Salmonella and transmit it to humans through contact, especially if hygiene is lax.

Humans exposed to Salmonella typically experience nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and fever. In more serious cases, infections can spread beyond the gut, causing complications like arterial infections, endocarditis (heart-lining infection), arthritis, and urinary issues.

Consumer Instructions

If you own or handle the recalled product:

  • Do not feed it to pets.
  • Do not donate or resell the recalled items.
  • Sanitize pet bowls, utensils, surfaces and storage containers that may have touched the product. Hand-washing after handling is essential.
  • Return the product to the place of purchase for a refund, or dispose of it safely so that children, pets or wildlife cannot access it.

Legal Considerations

Even though these are pet food products, human injuries resulting from cross‐contamination or handling can trigger legal liability. If you believe you or a loved one have fallen ill from Salmonella or related bacterial exposure linked to contaminated pet food or related product, it’s wise to seek counsel. Your legal rights and documentation steps matter.

Prevention & Industry Implications

This recall underscores the need for rigorous hygiene and pathogen surveillance in animal & veterinary food supply chains, not just for consumer foods. The fact that Salmonella testing on a distributor-collected sample initiated the recall highlights the importance of upstream oversight.

Pet owners can take extra precautions: always wash hands after handling raw pet food, separate raw and cooked food surfaces, and store pet food at safe temperatures. Even frozen items should be handled carefully and thoughtfully.
