On the 16th of September, 2022, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced Kroger Co.’s voluntary recall of their bagged kale due to it possibly containing the organism Listeria Monocytogenes. The product’s full title is Kroger Brand Kale labeled “The Kroger Co. Fresh Produce.” Kroger’s voluntary recall affects the Kroger Brand Kale packaged and sold in 16 oz. plastic, sealed bags.
The 16 oz. bags of Kale contain best by date of 09/18/2021 as well as a UPC 11110-18170. These can be found written on the front of the plastic bags below a baby-blue colored bar.
Distribution of these products has been reported to include Kroger Co. locations in Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, West Virginia, Columbus, Nashville and Ohio. According to the recent voluntary recall publication by the Kroger Co., “All affected products were pulled from our Produce departments on Sept. 16, 2021.” No other Kroger products are included in this recall
According to the nation’s leading Food Poisoning Lawyer, Ron Simon,”The common symptoms of listeriosis include muscle aches, fever, and diarrhea. However, if the infection spreads to the nervous system, the symptoms can become more serious. A stiff neck, seizures, the sudden inability to balance, mental confusion, and headache are all symptoms of listeriosis. Your healthcare provider will examine your medical history and the results of your physical exam to determine whether listeria infection is at play. Aside from asking you about the foods you’ve recently consumed, your physician may perform a blood or spinal fluid test to confirm that listeriosis is the cause of your symptoms.”
Individuals experiencing any of the afore-mentioned symptoms, particularly if after accidental consumption of Kroger Brand Co.’s bagged Kale, should contact their personal healthcare provider and public health authorities as soon as possible. Prompt action when dealing with foodborne illnesses such as Listeria is absolutely vital.
Customers who have bought Kroger’s Kale in the 16 oz. bags are encouraged to return the product to the location of purchase for a full refund.
