The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and 1728435 Ontario Inc. have issued a recall for O’Ya hoho brand Enoki Mushroom due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria). Listeria is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
Background
The presence of Listeria was revealed by CFIA testing.
This is classified as a Class I recall, which means that eating or drinking the affected food product will lead to a serious health problem or death.
The CFIA is currently conducting a food safety investigation.
Distribution
The recalled product was distributed only in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

Health Risks
There have been no reported cases of illness or injuries in connection with the consumption of the recalled products.
Listeriosis, the infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes, is particularly dangerous for certain vulnerable populations. Pregnant individuals, people aged 65 or older, and those with weakened immune systems are at highest risk. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions, sometimes preceded by gastrointestinal symptoms. In pregnant individuals, listeriosis can lead to miscarriages, stillbirths, premature delivery, or life-threatening infections in newborns.
Anyone experiencing symptoms of Listeriosis should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
Food Poisoning News has covered several recalls this year of Enoki Mushrooms due to Listeria contamination, including:
- Recall of HH Fresh Trading Corp Enoki Mushrooms
- Recall of Enoki King Mushroom Farm Enoki Mushrooms
- Meta brand Enoki Mushrooms recalled
Commenting on this story, one national Listeria lawyer said, “I strongly urge any consumer in possession of the recalled mushrooms to follow all recall instructions to ensure their safety and the safety of their family.”
