Chicken & Rice Guys Lawsuit for the Victims of the Boston, Maryland Outbreak
Boston, which has been at the epicenter of a number of food borne illness outbreaks in recent years, is now facing another outbreak of e. coli from Rice & Guy’s. Dr. Anita Barry, who is the director of the Infectious Disease Bureau at Boston’s Public Health Commission, has confirmed that at least 15 are now confirmed to have acquired e. coli, or STEC from eating at the Chicken & Rice Guy’s restaurant, which stands for Shiga toxin-Producing E. Coli, differentiating it from the myriad strains of e. coli that are often present in humans but do not shed Shiga toxin. The result of the Shiga-toxin is that it causes bloody diarrhea, which can last for days (7-10), and cause dehydration that can be severe.
These victims all have a legal basis for filing a Chicken & Rice Guys lawsuit for their e. coli illnesses.
Dehydration can lead to electrolyte imbalances, dizziness, headaches and more severe consequences. The presence of Shiga toxin can lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome, or HUS, — according to Dr. Barry, none of the 15 victims have yet suffered from HUS. HUS can be fatal or lead to the need for one or more kidney transplants.
