El Departamento de Salud de Nevada concluye su investigación sobre el brote de Salmonella vinculado al Elko Casino.

El Departamento de Salud de Nevada concluye su investigación sobre el brote de Salmonella vinculado al Elko Casino.

El brote de salmonela asociado con el casino Elko fue oficialmente concluido por el Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos de Nevada.

El brote de salmonela fue anunciado por primera vez por el Departamento de Salud de Nevada después de que 12 casos de salmonela fueron reportados por el Hospital Regional del Noreste de Nevada entre el 8 y el 11 de marzo. Según las autoridades estatales durante el tiempo que se anunció el brote de salmonella, 5 de las personas afectadas reportaron comer huevos soleadas en el restaurant The Grille adentro del casino Gold Dust West. El Departamento de Salud de Nevada informó un tiempo después que 29 casos confirmados y 9 probables de salmonela estaban vinculados a los huevos que se servían en el restaurante del casino Elko.

La Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos de los Estados Unidos (FDA,) y los funcionarios ambientales estatales trabajaron juntos para probar las muestras de huevo proporcionadas por el restaurante, pero las 107 muestras dieron negativo resultados para la salmonela. Las muestras de huevo analizadas por la FDA y los funcionarios estatales fueron recibidas por el restaurante el 8 de marzo, 2019. Los huevos que fueron servidos a los casos reportados de salmonella, cuales ya habían sido servidos y consumidos, fueron recibidos por el restaurante en el rango de fechas del 1 y 5 de marzo. Funcionarios del Departamento de Salud declararon que, aunque las muestras de alimentos eran negativas, el análisis del estudio de caso-control mostró significación estadística para la comida de desayuno americano servido en el restaurante, el desayuno incluía 3 huevos servidos en cualquier estilo. El Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos de Nevada concluyó su informe sobre el brote de salmonela afirmando: “Los resultados del estudio de caso-control junto con el análisis binomial muestran fuertes evidencias epidemiológicas de que los huevos son la fuente potencial de infección.”

Brian Cloud, gerente general de Gold Dust West, declaró: “Nos alegramos de que el departamento de salud emitiera el informe, no encontraron problemas en el manejo de nuestros productos o el entorno de la cocina.” Según el Departamento de Salud, el propietario del restaurante Jacobs Entertainment ofreció una cooperación completa para identificar posibles productos y causas del brote.
