New Seasons Market Recalls Ground Beef Due to E. Coli Contamination

New Seasons Market recalls ground beef with E. coli contamination. The Oregon based grocery chain, New Seasons Market, announced the recall of their fresh ground beef for possible E. coli 0157:H7 contamination. The recall includes the fresh, in-house ground beef that is sold at the meat counter as well as ground beef products such as meatballs, meat loaf and hamburger patties.

The ground beef that is recalled has the “packed on” dates of October 19 through October 23, 2019 and the “sell by” dates of October 23 through October 26, 2019. Consumers are urged to dispose of any ground beef with these dates or return the meat to the grocery store where is was purchased.

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) has confirmed three illnesses from consumption of the contaminated ground beef. After conducting tests at the Oregon State Public Health Laboratory, the OHA was able to pinpoint E. coli 0157:H7 in all three patients.

Symptoms of E. coli present as diarrhea and bloody stools and usually subside on their own within a week of contracting the bacteria. However, there is the risk of severe complications including dehydration, anemia and even kidney failure. Contacting a health professional is recommended if there is concern of exposure to the recalled ground beef.
