Food Poisoning at Doug Sauls’ BBQ and Seafood: Salmonella Outbreak in Nash County, North Carolina

The Nash County Health Department in Nashville, North Carolina has temporarily closed a local restaurant after inspectors found salmonella throughout the establishment. Officials released a statement that Doug Sauls’ BBQ and Seafood restaurant, which is located at 813 Western Avenue, will be closed temporarily due to salmonella findings on November 22, 2019. Positive testing for salmonella was found in multiple locations on equipment and around the kitchen as well as in the food.

According to local reports, there are confirmed reports of at least ten patrons of the restaurant claiming they fell ill after dining here in the days prior to the inspection.

Food poisoning from salmonella can cause mild to severe stomach cramps, diarrhea that could be bloody, nausea, vomiting, a fever, and a headache. Customers that have experienced food poisoning symptoms within a few days following their meal at Doug Sauls’ BBQ and Seafood restaurant are encouraged to contact a health professional.  Local reports indicate that physicians and other medical professionals can send a stool sample to the Nash County Health Department for free testing.

Doug Sauls’ BBQ and Seafood will remain closed until employees can properly and safely disinfect and sanitize the entire restaurant and pass another inspection of the kitchen, equipment and all of the restaurant’s food products.
