Listeria Recall at Trader Joe’s: Ready-to-Eat Sushi, Bowls and Spring Rolls All Recalled
Trader Joe’s issued a voluntary recall on their ready-to-eat sushi, bowls and spring rolls for possible Listeria monocytogenes. Trader Joe’s removed the recalled foods from their shelves after their supplier, Fuji Foods Products, issued the listeria recall on November 27, 2019, “out of an abundance of caution.”
The recall is specific to the supply warehouse located in Massachusetts which distributes to the Trader Joe’s on the East coast and Midwest. The products affected in the listeria recall are Trader Joe’s ready to eat sushi, poke bowls, noodle bowls and queso fundido cheese dip. A complete list of the recalled items as well as the specific UPC codes are on the Trader Joe’s website.
Trader Joe’s has removed all of the recalled food items from their shelves and they are
asking customers that have purchased the contaminated product to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund and to be disposed of properly. There have been no reports of illness as to date. Listeriosis is the infection caused from ingesting listeria monocytogenes bacteria and is especially concerning in women who are pregnant, children and the elderly as well as those with a compromised immune system. Listeriosis usually presents itself with symptoms similar to other foodborne illnesses: fever and diarrhea. However, it is particularly hard to diagnosis and can become life threatening if the infectious bacteria spread beyond the gut. Prevention of serious illness is completed by awareness of current recalls and contacting a health professional when there is concern of exposure.
