Fresh Attitude Baby Spinach Recalled Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

Fresh Attitude Baby Spinach is being recalled by Vegpro International of Sherrington, Quebec, Canada, due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall was initiated after the product tested positive for traces of Salmonella contamination during routine food safety testing. Further testing implicated a part of a lot of Baby Spinach being responsible for the contamination. The product was distributed in the Northeastern United States (NY,NJ, DE, CT,MD & PA), as well as in Eastern Canada.

The following products have been recalled:

  • BABY SPINACH. 8 X 5 OZ, Fresh Attitude, Best before 2020-12-04 & 2020-12-05
    UPC : 888048000042
    UPC case : 10888048000049
  • BABY SPINACH. 9 X 11 OZ, Fresh Attitude, Best before 2020-12-04
    UPC : 888048000288
    UPC case : 10888048000285

No illnesses have been reported as of date due to the contamination. Customers who have purchased the contaminated Baby Spinach are encouraged to return it to the store of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with any questions regarding the recall can contact Vegpro International at 1-877-613-5700.

As maintained by the CDC, symptoms of Salmonella contamination typically present as typical food poisoning symptoms: diarrhea, which may be bloody, fever, and stomach cramps, though some patients have reported symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and headaches. Salmonellosis, the infection caused by Salmonella contamination, symptoms may begin as early as 6 hours and as late as 6 days after consumption, and the illness typically lasts 4-7 days. Medical treatment may be necessary for Salmonella contamination in cases with dehydration or a fever of more than 102 degrees Fahrenheit. People with compromised immune systems, such as the elderly, children, and those with weakened immune systems, are at an increased risk for a severe Salmonella infection, such as bloodstream infection.

According to National Salmonella Lawyer Ron Simon, “Severe Salmonella infections can lead life to life-long problems, including  post infectious irritable bowel syndrome or post infectious reactive arthritis. To circumvent these afflictions, consumers experiencing extreme symptoms of Salmonella poisoning should contact their physician and request a stool sample.”
