Lake Champlain Chocolates Voluntarily Recalls Select Milk Chocolate Products due to Potential Foreign Objects

On January 16, 2021, Lake Champlain Chocolates (LCC) recalled certain milk chocolate products because they may contain foreign objects. All of the potentially affected chocolate products that were produced between July 2020 and January 2021 have been recalled. As of January 16, 2021, no consumers have suffered any health issues related to this recall; however, the recall was initiated after one consumer found “brittle plastic pieces” in an LCC product.

Consumers should look out for LCC’s Hazelnut Five Star Bar, Almond Five Star Bar, Granola Five Star Bar, Fruit and Nut Five Star Bar, Milk Chocolate Almond Bark, Organic Milk Chocolate Bar With Sea Salt and Almonds, and Chocolates of Vermont Green Mountain, and dispose of them. Because many of these products may come in a plethora of packaging, it is critical that customers check the FDA’s List of items and Best-By Dates that are affected by this recall. The FDA’s list provides the Stock Codes, Item Description, UPC numbers, LOT Numbers, and Best-By dates for all the affected products.

According to the CDC, food safety issues will continue to rise because of changes in food production and supply, such as processing, distribution, and importation, new contaminants, and unforeseen illnesses coming from food. Consumers should remain vigilant in food safety practices, and always check their kitchens for recalled products in order to protect themselves, and those they love.

The affected LCC products were likely distributed throughout all fifty states in the United States, including the Champlain Chocolate Company stores in Vermont. LCC is taking steps to ensure no other products will need to be recalled. Victims of these recalled products should report any health concerns and dispose of any remaining product included in this recall.
