Ron Simon & Associates have filed the first Aspen Salmonella Lawsuit against Koch Meat Co. and Kroger Co. on behalf of one of the victims of the Salmonella outbreak linked to consumption of Aspen Foods’ stuffed chicken Oven Cravers.
The victim, Colleen Sappington, purchased and consumed an Aspen Foods’ Oven Craver frozen chicken entree in late June of this year and thereafter began to experience the symptoms of salmonellosis, including episodes of vomiting, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, headaches and fever. Colleen was forced to seek medical attention as a result of her injuries.
As of last week the CDC had identified 10 victims, but the number is expected to increase as more cases make their way through the reporting cycle.
The Investigation:
On June 23rd, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) became aware of a number of Salmonella Enteritidis illnesses, starting with three in Minnesota. Working with health officials from Minnesota and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the FSIS was able to trace the illnesses to consumption of Aspen Foods’ products (Aspen Foods is a division of Koch Meat Co.). As a result of this revelation, Aspen Foods issued a nationwide recall of nearly 2 million pounds of its frozen chicken entrees on July 15, 2015.
