On the 28th of September, 2023, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) published the recall of Eagle Produce LLC’s Whole Cantaloupe product due to a positive Salmonella test. The FDA’s publication of Eagle Produce’s Whole Cantaloupe recall followed a day after the Scottsdale, Arizona-based company’s announcement; on September 27th, 2023.

The presence of Salmonella in the cantaloupe product was discovered through a random testing conducted by the FDA’s distribution center officials. Following the discovery of Salmonella in the produce, Eagle Produce LLC quickly recalled approximately 6,456 whole cantaloupes. As one National Food Poisoning Lawyer, Dr. Tony Coveny, has clarified regarding Salmonella, it “…can easily infect many foods, including meat, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and even spices and nuts. Salmonella bacteria can cause two different diseases. The more common illness Salmonella causes is salmonellosis. This is what we know as Salmonella food poisoning. Symptoms of salmonellosis include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, cramps, and fever. Salmonellosis is not as serious as enteric fever, and symptoms usually last just a few days, tapering off in about a week.” Consumers who are experiencing these symptoms or other adverse reactions, following consumption in particular of Eagle Produce LLC’s Whole Cantaloupes, should promptly see their personal healthcare provider as well as alert their local public health and safety officials.

For identification, the FDA published the affected Eagle Produce LLC Whole Cantaloupe products’ brand title, Lot code, item description and UPC code. All under the brand Kandy, the recalled whole cantaloupes have the UPC code of 4050, with a Lot code of either 797901, 797900, or 804918. The cantaloupes were distributed in the following twenty states: Washington, D.C., California, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Iowa, Maryland, Louisiana, Minnesota, Michigan, North Carolina, Missouri, Ohio, North Dakota, Tennessee, South Dakota, Virginia, Texas, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Customers may return the Eagle Produce LLC’s recalled Whole Cantaloupe at the location of purchase for a full refund. To speak with Eagle Produce, individuals may contact the company at 1-800-627-8674.
