Suspected Food Poisoning Strikes Malaysian School
A suspected food poisoning incident at a school in George Town, Malaysia has led to the hospitalization of 28 students.
Nearly 500 students and 2 school staff were served a meal of fried tandoori chicken for lunch at the school’s cafeteria last Friday. Soon after, 28 of them began experiencing symptoms of food poisoning and were forced to seek treatment at a local hospital and a local health clinic.
The Penang state Health Department said that a local district health office is conducting an investigation into the source of the food poisoning and have taken food samples for analysis. The school cafeteria has been closed temporarily pending the outcome of the inquiry.
Food Poisoning News has recently reported on similar incidents at other schools in Malaysia. In mid-June, 82 were sickened and 2 children died after eating a contaminated breakfast at a school event. Late last month, 90 students and 9 staff members experienced food poisoning symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting after eating lunch at a school cafeteria. Eleven students required medical attention but no one was hospitalized.
All 28 students in George Town were discharged yesterday after their condition stabilized.
Bollywood Actress Hospitalized with Food Poisoning
Popular Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor has been hospitalized with a “severe case of food poisoning” according to multiple sources.
Reports say Kapoor had been traveling and believes food she consumed at an airport in India is the suspected source of her sickness. Once home, she began to feel ill. As her condition worsened Kapoor sought medical help and was advised to go to the hospital where she was admitted yesterday.
Kapoor’s condition is said to have stabilized and she should be discharged by the weekend.
“I had s*** the bed, and she was in the bed…”
Actor Justin Long shared an embarrassing incident that happened with his wife, Kate Bosworth.
On a Tuesday episode of the PIE with Kurt Sutter and Katey Sagal podcast, Long told the story of an especially severe bout of food poisoning while the couple were on vacation in Mexico.
Already connected to an IV, a sick Long had made multiple trips to the bathroom one evening until he woke up and realized he had “s*** the bed, and she was in the bed.”
According to Long, Bosworth “…was not judging, not making me feel weird or bad..” and helped him get to the shower where he could clean up.
Commenting on this article, one national food safety attorney said, “Whether a student or famous actor, food poisoning can strike anyone. Most cases resolve themselves in a few days and only require plenty of rest and fluids to recover. That said, I recommend everyone who gets ill report their illness to their local health agency adn seek medical attention if dehydration, anxiety, or a fever develops. Medical attention is always the most prudent option if accessible.”
