Flour from 2015 still on shelves, subject to recall

Cases of flour with sell by dates from 2015 have been found on some retail shelves and are now being recalled for potential salmonella contamination. Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods is voluntarily recalling 2,099 cases of Organic Amaranth Flour (22 oz.) that was shipped in 2014 and has a sell by date of November 26, 2015.

Testing of the flour, found on the shelves of a retail store, revealed the presence of salmonella. The company is investigating to determine the source of the contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date.

The recall is for a single LOT of Organic Amaranth Flour (22 oz.) with a sell by date of November 26, 2015, which can be identified by LOT: 169617 and UPC: 0 39978 00911 1.

The recalled flour product was distributed through retailers and distributors nationwide. This product and LOT was distributed in CA, FL, MI, ND, N, NY, OH, OR, TX, and WA starting June 11, 2014, and ended shipping on August 7, 2014.

Although the sell by date was listed as November 2015, this recalled flour product was found on the shelves of one retail store, and thus Bob’s Red Mill is recalling the product out of an abundance of caution for food safety reasons. Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should not use it, but should dispose of it properly.

Salmonella contamination can cause serious gastrointestinal issues, including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. For more information about the flour recall and about salmonella contamination, please contact the food poisoning lawyers at 1-888-335-4901.
