WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree Pouches from Ecuador Also Sold as Weis and Schnucks Brand Products

According to FDA, WanaBana applesauce pouches have been distributed nationwide through various retailers, and the Schnuck’s and Weis products were sold through its own grocery store chains. Now, 34 child victims have been identified as having acquired dangerous levels of lead poisoning from consumption of theses products, which contain 200-times the acceptable level of lead, or 21.8 parts per million.

The initials victims were identified as North Carolina was looking into reports of elevated blood-levels of lead in young children. A survey of the foods served to these infants and children led to the analysis of the potential culprits, and WanaBana applesauce pouches were found to have far more lead than acceptable under FDA guidelines.

Children who suffer from lead poisoning may suffer headaches, gastrointestinal pain, emesis, or anemia. When exposed to high levels of lead for a prolonged period of time, children may be irritable, fatigued, constipated, suffer tremors, or muscle cramps, tingling or weakness.

“Any child who consumed WanaBana applesauce pouches should taken to be tested. Routine blood work can look for elevations in lead poisoning. Early detection and treatment are vital to preventing any long-term illness or side-effects,” says Ron Simon, a national food poisoning lawyer, adding “we now represent a number of these children and their families, and are waiting on significant test results before proceeding. Once we have a picture of the potential health complications, we will file a WanaBana applesauce Lead Poisoning lawsuit for our clients.”
