Xin Ao Mushrooms Recalled Due To Listeria Concerns

On the 17th of February, 2023, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced Xin Ao International Group Corporation’s recall of their Enoki Mushrooms. Xin Ao International Group Corp. is reportedly recalling 200 grams of their “K-Fresh Mushroom” and “Sss Enoki Mushroom” due to possible contamination with Listeria Monocytogenes.

Xin Ao International Group Corp. distributed their “K-Fresh Mushroom” and “Sss Enoki Mushroom” products in Maryland, to the supermarket retailer, 99 Ranch. The expiration date of the recalled products is 02/15/2023. The “K-Fresh Mushroom” product’s Lot number is 4892742010234. The “Sss Enoki Mushroom” product’s Lot number is 6953150100677.

According to one National Food Poisoning Lawyer, Ron Simon, Listeria Monocytogenes in food is dangerous because, “Listeriosis is a serious infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes. The disease affects primarily persons of advanced age, pregnant women, newborns, and adults with weakened immune systems. However, persons without these risk factors can also rarely be affected…A person with listeriosis has fever, muscle aches, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions can occur (CDC, 2011).

Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness; however, infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarriage or stillbirth, premature delivery, or infection of the newborn (CDC, 2011).” The U.S. Food & Drug Administration shared that the Listeria contamination concern originated as “…the result of a routine sampling program by Maryland Department of Health which revealed that the finished products contained the bacteria.” After this discovery, Xin Ao International Group Corp. completely halted production and distribution of their “K-Fresh Mushroom” and “Sss Enoki Mushroom” products; proceeding with the investigation in partnership with the U.S. Food & Drug Safety Administration.

Customers who have purchased the recalled Xin Ao Mushrooms are encouraged to return to the location of purchase for a full refund

If experiencing the above-listed Listeriosis symptoms, individuals should contact their personal healthcare provider and public health officials promptly.
