I. M. Healthy SoyNut Recall Now Naming Dixie U.S.A.’s Dixie Diner’s Club brand Carb Not Beanit Butter
The SoyNut E. coli outbreak linked to I. M. Healthy SoyNut products has been expanded to include Dixie U.S.A.’s Dixie Diner’s Club brand Carb Not Beanit Butter (CNBB). CNBB is made from roasted organic soybeans and is seen as an all-natural source of phytoestorgens and isoflavones, with 20% less fat than peanut butter. It is gluten, wheat, and dairy free, and is considered “heart healthy.” The product, which was only available through mail or on-line purchase, it is now being recalled due to its possible contamination with E. coli. E. coli is a bacteria that in most cases is introduced into food through human or animal feces.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are now 16 confirmed cases in 9 states, including 8 hospitalizations and at least two cases of hemolytic uremic syndrome, or HUS, both in young children. So far there are no fatalities, though E. coli can be deadly if a person with a weakened immune system such as the elderly or a person with an underlying medical condition acquires it. It is believed that at least one of the children consumed the product at a local daycare facility.
