This Chipotle food poisoning outbreak is in Sterling, Virginia. The cause, according to company spokesperson Jim Marsden, is likely norovirus. Now, with stock prices plummeting once again, Chipotle is forced to reassess once again. The Chipotle Mexican Grill at issue is located at 21031 Tripleseven Road, and is owned by the Denver based Chipotle company.
The outbreak comes on the heels of two bad years for the restaurant chain, with E. coli, Salmonella and norovirus outbreaks plaguing it from coast to coast. The company even had a closure day, company wide, in February of 2016 to focus on re-calibrating and training. Sick employees have been told to stay home. Employees are being given extra training. And the chain how “sources responsibly” as opposed to “locally” in an attempt to prevent product based outbreaks. According to Jim Marsden, a norovirus outbreak is not a product-based outbreak. Implicit in what he is saying is that an outbreak of norovirus indicates it was likely introduced into the restaurant and spread.
