Premo turkey and cheese wedge sandwiches recalled

Turkey and cheese wedge sandwiches distributed to retail stores in eleven states are potentially contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. Lipari Foods, LLC, has voluntarily recalled Premo Brand turkey and cheese wedge sandwiches that were produced by its sister company, JLM, on August 8, 2018. The sandwiches were distributed to food service and retail stores throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Recalled products include the 5 oz package of turkey & cheese wedge sandwiches marked with an enjoy by date of 8/31/18 and UPC 612510002018. The potentially contaminated product was shipped to stores starting on August 9. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discovered the potential contamination when they conducted additional environmental testing following a previous recall by JLM. An investigation after that recall found positive test results for potential listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Consumers who have purchased the Premo brand turkey and cheese wedge sandwiches should not eat them. The potentially contaminated products should be disposed of properly or returned to the store of purchase.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Soft cheeses, cold cut meat, and vegetables are the primary vehicles that spread listeriosis, and listeria lawyer Ron Simon has experience in litigating cases involving these foods. Since listeria lives on external surfaces for years until disinfected, entire food processing factories sometimes contaminate food products. For more information about the Premo brand turkey and cheese wedge sandwich recall and about your legal options if you have become ill after eating these potentially contaminated sandwiches, contact the food poisoning lawyers at 1-888-335-4901.
