Fit & Active Sandwiches recalled for possible contamination
The listeria and salmonella contamination that has affected products made with McCain Foods produced ingredients has also impacted Fit & Active Southwest Veggie Stuffed Sandwiches. Unlike other food products affected by the McCain recall, these sandwiches are not ready-to-eat. They do need to be heated to be eaten; however, if not cooked properly they will cause illnesses related to food poisoning.
As a result of the McCain recall and the potential for contamination, J&J Snack Foods Handheld Corp. of Holly Ridge, NC is voluntarily recalling two lots of Fit & Active Southwest Veggie Stuffed Sandwiches. Those sandwich products affected have production dates of Julian code: 20027230003106:15 BEST BY FEB 09 2019 and Julian code: 20027235003115:13 BEST BY FEB 14 2019. The UPC code for the recalled sandwich products is 0 4149815117 1.
The Fit & Active sandwiches were distributed to Aldi retail stores in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, and West Virginia. The potentially contaminated sandwich products were also available for purchase to ALDI customers in the Atlanta area through the company’s partnership with Instacart, a grocery delivery service.
A long list of ready-to-eat food products have been recalled because of their potential to be contaminated with listeria and salmonella, as they contain ingredients such as corn, onion, tomato, and other vegetables produced by McCain Foods.
