HEB Brand Chicken Soup Recalled in December of 2019 – Soup has a Use By Date of January 21, 2020.

H-E-B brand chicken soup has been recalled due to misbranding. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert and recall for a chicken soup that was sold to H-E-B stores in Texas. The recall alert was issued after the company, Canyon Creek Soup Co. Ltd., located in Canada, notified the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) that the label did not indicate the soup contains known allergens of wheat and soy. The CFIA subsequently notified FSIS of the issue as the chicken soup was imported and distributed exclusively to the U.S. The company stated that it was made aware of the mistake after receiving customer complaints.

The recalled chicken soup was produced on January 21, 2019 and shipped to 350 H-E-B grocery stores all across Texas. The recall is for the 16-ounce plastic container with the name “H-E-B Meal Simple Butter Chicken Soup” and has the UPC code of “0 41220 79872 8.”  This soup product also has the best by date of January 21, 2020. The containers also include a Canada establishment number of 422 to better identify the chicken soup that has been recalled.

FSIS states that there are no reported cases of illness as of December, however there is concern that customers might have the product at home for consumption and may be unaware of the wrongly packaged soup. The recalled chicken soup should be thrown away or brought back to the place of purchase.
