Saint Louis University is the latest location to be impacted by on outbreak of food poisoning, with local reports indicating that the illnesses of at least 14 students may be linked to Jimmy John’s Restaurants.

Jimmy John’s is no stranger to food poisoning, having been involved in a number of outbreaks in recent years, this according to Food Poisoning Lawyer Ron Simon who is currently in litigation with Jimmy John’s yet again, this time linked to  a recent salmonella outbreak linked to sprouts served on their sandwiches.  According to Ron Simon, who represents Karma Gleaves, a patron of the Jimmy John’s who got salmonella from eating at Jimmy John’s located at 14110 South Bell Road in Homer, Illinois, “sprouts are one of a food poisoning lawyer’s top culprits in outbreaks of dangerous pathogens since they are hard to clean, served raw, and widely consumed.”

The current outbreak is being investigated by the St. Louis City Health Department.  The Jimmy John’s restaurant briefly shuttered its doors on January 25th but there have been mixed messages as to whether the closure was to provide St. Louis City Health time to investigate or if it was closed for a plumbing issue.

As of now, no official report or finding by the St. Louis City Health Department has been given or made.

Previous outbreaks linked to Jimmy John’s include the outbreak of E. coli O103 in late December of 2019 which implicated sprouts.  Ironically, there in yet another recall of sprouts, issued due to possible Salmonella contamination, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced that the recall applies to 454-gram bags of Fresh Sprouts bean sprouts with a best before date of Feb. 28, 2020, and UPC of 8 27468 00100.
